Lectio Divina

Adapted from Prayer As a Place - Charles Bello

Ready (5 minutes)

  • Find a place where you can be quiet, undisturbed, and focused on God.

  • Quiet your heart, sit in silence, and invite your Heavenly Father to meet with you during this prayer time.

Read (5 minutes)

  • Read a Bible passage slowly twice, letting your awareness rest on each word.

  • Read the passage again slowly, but this time read it aloud.

  • Listen for the still, quiet voice of God as you read.

  • Be aware of any word or phrase that especially catches your attention.

Reflect (5 minutes)

  • Meditate on the word, phrase, or verse(s) that caught your attention.

  • As you reflect, listen and allow God to speak to you.

  • Be aware of any emotion or experience the word, phrase, or verse may stir up.

  • Notice if you sense any resistance in your spirit; what might God be stirring?

Respond (5 minutes)

  • Respond to the word, phrase, or verse(s) that has caught your attention.

  • Have a conversation with God about what you are hearing or feeling.

  • Take time to sit and listen for God’s response, and write down this dialogue.

Rest

  • Rest in God’s presence. Wordless, quiet, physical rest in the presence of God is called contemplation. (Psalm 46:10)

Return

  • As you go through your day, keep returning to the passage and your reflection. Keep returning to your insights, resolving to integrate them into your life.
